DENSITY AND UPTHRUST

DENSITY
The density of a substance is its mass per unit volume

density=mass/volume
p = m/v
where p represent density.
m = mass
v = volume
the si unit of density is kg/m³ or g/cm³

Here are the list of density of important substance in descending order.

Subs. Density
Gold 19300
Mercury 13600
Lead 11300
Brass 8900
Iron 7900
Aluminium 2700
Glass 2600
Water 1000
Ice 920
parafin oil 800
wood 750
Petrol 700
Air 1.3

Relative Density
The relative density of substance is defined as follows :

r.d = density of substance/density of water.

r.d = mass of substance/mass of equal volume of water.

r.d = weight of substance/weight of equal volume of water.
Relative density has no unit
